Back to the Future - Annual Conference 2008
12th - 14th November 2008
Hotel Metropole, Llandrindod Wells
Conference goes “Back to the Future”!
The Joint Annual TPAS Cymru and Welsh Tenants’ Federation Conference went back to the future this year in Llandrindod wells – celebrating 20 years of tenant participation in Wales.
The conference had lively and interesting sessions on the journey that tenant participation has taken in Wales and a look towards what the future could hold for social housing in Wales as part of the implementation of the recommendations from the Essex Review – the report from the Affordable Housing Task and Finish Group, chaired by former Welsh Assembly Government Minister, Sue Essex.
Sue Essex, attended the conference, and spoke about how the recommendations from the report could shape the future of social housing in Wales over the next few years. Ms Essex also spoke about the role of social housing in the current financial climate – explaining that this was a period where investment could be made in the services and number of affordable homes available in Wales.
In a change to conference this year, David Lloyd, Project Officer, did his own impersonation of Chris Tarrant with a special conference version of “Who Wants to be a Tenant Participation Millionaire” – with lots of participation from the audience. The brave contestants facing the tough questions included: Ann Roberts, Membership and Operations Manager (north); Peter Bungay, Member Services development Officer for the WTF; carol Morris, TPAS Cymru Management Committee Board Member; Stuart Baldwin, Project Support Officer from Inform to Involve and a last minute contestant came in the form of John Drysdale, Director of TPAS Cymru.
Photos and presentations from the Joint Annual Conference will soon be made available on the TPAS Cymru website, and on our Facebook page. If you have any photos or memories of the conference that you would like to share with others please contact Amanda Oliver, Information and Policy Officer, TPAS Cymru.
