Participation Awards 2008

Winners Announced at the “Participation Oscars"

All the Glitz and Glamour of the “Oscars” was present at the TPAS Cymru Annual Participation Awards, which was held at the Angel Hotel in Cardiff on the 15th of May.  The Awards, also known at the ‘Participation Oscars’ celebrates and recognises the work of tenants and landlords in their communities who work together to make improvements to services and neighbourhoods.

Delegates were entertained to dramatic effect when the winners were announced in an ‘Oscar’ style show presented by influential members of the housing community in Wales.

The Awards are about recognition and applause but the day was also about seeing long term benefits through sharing of information and learning experiences.  Barbara Castle, a leading expert in the field of community engagement and participation delivered a key note speech at the ceremony which fired up enthusiasm amongst the attendees for tenant participation over the coming 12 months. In true participative style TPAS Cymru held an innovative and interactive session with the delegates through a ‘Mastermind session’  with a panel from the Wales housing sector as delegates ‘under the spotlight!’ answering contemporary questions on Housing and regeneration issues.

Anne Hinchey, Chief Executive of Wales & West Housing Association said, “It’s always a pleasure to sponsor and support the TPAS Cymru Tenant Participation Awards. We have much to be proud of in Wales with the way in which tenants get involved in their community. As landlords, it’s important that we listen to tenants and learn from them. These awards are an opportunity to rightly reward those nominated by other tenants for the hard work and time they give to their community. “

This year TPAS Cymru received over 50 nominations from all over Wales. The submissions were of a high standard and they truly captured the attention of the judges, not only in terms of the written material and detailed explanation of projects but for imaginative range of participation projects and initiatives being undertaken in the Principality.
